About the Project
This study documents how indigenous peoples of Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Kamchatka perceive and manage natural disasters and extreme weather events, including documentation of strategies for early detection of coming events, coping strategies, and perceptions of short and long term impacts of these events on biodiversity. The project is linked with an African project in Kenya, Tanzania, Swaziland and South Africa on the application and use of indigenous knowledge for disaster management. These projects will serve as a basis for regional information sharing on indigenous knowledge.
