3.1 Common and serious disasters

In NAO, blizzards and strong winds were described as common disaster types by more than 50 interviewees (Figure 3.1). Blizzards, strong winds, floods and icing were identified as the most serious disasters by more than 20 people.

In Kamchatka, blizzards, fires and floods are listed as common disasters by more than 20 interviewees (Figure 3.2). Fire was the only disaster type to be identified as �most serious� by more than 20 people. More disaster types were identified by interviewees in this region, possibly reflecting the greater exposure to some disasters (volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis).
